Myth: An anonymous email
can never be traced back to the sender
Truth: There are clues in emails that indicate where
the email originated.
- All computers have
unique addresses, similar to homes having unique addresses.
This address and other types of identifiable information
are often stored in a section of the email called
a header.
- Just as mail travels
through several post offices before arriving in a
mailbox, an email travels through several email servers
before arriving in an inbox. Each email server leaves
a mark by inserting its address in the header of an
email.
